Pinfold Shepherd Huts design and build beautiful bespoke shepherd’s huts, based in the heart of the Derbyshire Peak District.

Pinfold Shepherd Huts is the creation of Richard and Charlotte, who have lived and worked in the heart of the Peak District all their lives, and between them have decades of experience in joinery, interior design, decorating, log cabin construction, and furniture design and manufacture.

Following a stay in a shepherd’s hut in the Yorkshire Dales, they fell in love with the concept, and, certain that they could design and build a better product than the one they had stayed in, started researching building a shepherd’s hut, found premises on a farm in the beautiful Peak District village of Middleton-by-Youlgreave, and so Pinfold Shepherd Huts was born!

They design and build bespoke turnkey shepherd’s huts using the best products and finishes, employing local tradesmen and suppliers wherever possible. A Pinfold shepherd’s hut will look just as stunning after many years use as it did when it left the workshop, with build quality and attention to detail at the heart of every build.

Meet the team…

(There are only two of us, so this won’t take long!)

Richard…

Richard started his career in the late ‘80’s working for the long established log cabin construction firm Pinelog, who at the time were based in Bakewell, Derbyshire, where he learned all the ins and outs of building timber framed cabins. This work took him all over the UK and Europe and cemented a love of working with his hands.

After a period of travelling, and then running a retail business for a few years, he founded Prodec Property Services Ltd. Driven by Richard’s endless pursuit of perfection, Prodec has gone from strength to strength over the years and are a very well respected decorating and joinery company. They work throughout Derbyshire and the Peak District in some of the most prestigious properties in the area, upto and including Chatsworth House, where they carried out the gilding work on the exterior of the house. One of their specialities is painting bespoke kitchens, furniture and joinery for a number of local companies, including Churchwood Design, which is how he and Charlotte met.

A desire to do something more constructional has been more than satisfied by building shepherd’s huts, which allow him to put all the skills he has learned in the last thirty years to good use!

Outside of work, Richard is a keen runner, having completed marathons in the UK, Europe and America. He is too busy with work to train for marathons anymore, but still runs a few times a week. Derbyshire born and bred, he loves the local area but likes to travel when possible, especially if he can indulge in one of his chief passions - skiing!

Charlotte…

Charlotte started working for Tideswell based Churchwood Design, the family business, when she left school. Churchwood make bespoke kitchens and furniture and have now been trading for almost forty years. Charlotte learned all aspects of kitchen design and construction on the job, and for the last ten years or so has been the company’s head designer, designing kitchens and furniture that have been installed all over the UK. She is accustomed to guiding clients through the process of designing their dream kitchen, and sourcing the necessary fittings and materials to achieve the desired look. While some of the kitchens are huge impressive rooms, much of the work is carried out in wonderfully quirky Derbyshire cottages where making good use of awkward or limited space is essential, which stands her in good stead for designing the interiors of shepherd’s huts!

When Covid struck in 2020 and Churchwood was forced into a state of semi-hibernation for a while by lockdown restrictions, Charlotte and her family fulfilled a long held dream and set up an antiques shop, Antique and Unique, which is proving to be a successful little business.

She met Richard around a decade ago when he was working on a property where Churchwood were installing a kitchen, and was very impressed by the standard of Prodec’s work. Soon, Prodec were painting all of Churchwood’s kitchens, and still are to this day.

Charlotte was looking for a new challenge, and becoming the designer (and workshop assistant when required) for Pinfold Shepherd Huts has fulfilled that wish.

Outside of work, Charlotte has a keen interest in art, design, and, of course, antiques. When she has time (which rarely happens) she likes to draw and paint and is a talented botanical artist. She loves animals, especially her two dogs, and hopes one day to be able to own a couple of donkeys.
